Matka Travertine from North Macedonia

Warm, layered, naturally tactile.

Matka travertine is a natural travertine quarried at Matka in North Macedonia, with an open linear grain in a warm range of ivory, sand, honey and walnut.

SUNMINERALS supplies it as blocks, slabs, tiles and cut-to-size pieces, with samples and a Technical Data Sheet on request. The showroom is in Business Bay, Dubai.

The character of Matka Travertine

Written by water, layer on layer. Warm underfoot, and better with every year it is lived on.

Travertine forms slowly, where mineral springs meet the air. Band after band of calcium carbonate settles until the stone becomes a record of its own making.

Cut against the bed, that record reads as a soft linear grain. Cut with it, the surface opens into cloud-like drifts.

The open pores are the signature of the material. Filled and honed, the surface turns quiet and even. Left open and bushhammered, it keeps a sunlit roughness that ages well and takes the weather without losing its warmth. That range is why it works as well on a hotel forecourt as on a family terrace.

What is Matka travertine?

Matka travertine is a natural travertine quarried at the Travertine Matka Quarry in Matka, North Macedonia.

Like all travertine it forms where mineral springs meet the air, as band after band of calcium carbonate settles into stone. Its grain is open and linear, with visible bedding, in a warm range of ivory, sand, honey and walnut.

What is the difference between vein cut and cross cut travertine?

The cut controls the pattern, so it is chosen first. Vein cut runs against the bed and reads as linear movement. Cross cut runs with the bed and opens the same layers into cloud-like movement. Pore, sheen and texture are chosen after the cut.

What is the difference between filled and open travertine?

Travertine has natural open pores. Filled and honed, the surface turns quiet and even and stays easy to wipe down, which suits counters and interiors. Left open, the pore reads as texture, and open and bushhammered the stone keeps a sunlit roughness that ages well and takes the weather.

Can Matka travertine be used outdoors and around pools?

Yes. Exterior walls, floors, pool capping and fountains are all standard applications for Matka travertine.

For a pool surround the finish is chosen for grip rather than shine: bushhammered and sandblasted surfaces keep their footing when wet. Slip resistance and frost resistance are covered by the Technical Data Sheet.

What are the technical values of Matka travertine?

Published values for Matka travertine: bulk density 2.63 g/cm³, compression strength 138.2 MPa, water absorption 0.87% and friction wear 24.3 cm³/50 cm². The full Technical Data Sheet, with laboratory values presented according to the relevant European EN standards, is available on request.

Which formats and thicknesses is Matka travertine supplied in?

Matka travertine is supplied as blocks, slabs, tiles and cut-to-size pieces. Standard slab thicknesses are 2 cm and 3 cm, and thicker formats from 4 cm to 12 cm are cut for the project.

Final slab dimensions depend on the selected block. The approximate maximum block processing size is 3.0 × 2.0 × 2.0 m.

What is the minimum order for Matka travertine?

Orders can begin from one slab, subject to material availability. If the selected material is in factory inventory, shipment can be arranged promptly.

When blocks must be sourced, the programme is confirmed after material, volume, processing and finish requirements have been reviewed. The lead time is confirmed for each specification.

Start an enquiry

Can I see a sample of Matka travertine before ordering?

Yes. Ask for a sample of Matka travertine in the finish you have in mind. Before production begins, you approve the selected material, finish and appearance. Production then follows those agreed specifications, with blocks and slabs selected and sorted to support consistency.

How is Matka travertine shipped to Dubai and the rest of the UAE?

SUNMINERALS coordinates final inspection, protective packing and international shipment according to the order and destination. Documentation, shipment planning and delivery schedules are coordinated as part of the order process.

The Port of Thessaloniki in Greece is the primary export gateway for international deliveries. Tell us the destination when you enquire, and the shipment is planned for it.
